The FCM History
In 1919, Frank Simon moved from Rulo, Nebraska to Falls City, Nebraska, and bought into a business known as the Falls City Wholesale and Supply Co., consisting of three divisions: implement, grocery, and real estate. Frank's sons, Clarence "C.A.", Harry and Leonard bought the grocery division in 1921 and changed the name to its present name - Falls City Mercantile.
In 1938, C. A. bought out his brothers, and later, entered into a partnership with Elmer J. Conkling of Nebraska City. Clarence F. Simon, son of C. A. joined the firm following World War II. He then took over the operation in 1962, upon his father's death. He continued to work with Mr. Conkling until the Mercantile was completely burned out in August 1966.
Conkling was bought out, and in 1968 Clarence F. Simon built the building at its current location, 223 W. 8th St.
Bill Simon Took over after Clarence's untimely death in 1989 at the age of 69. Bill passed away in December of 2020. Bill's son Dan, is now the fifth generation of the Falls City Mercantile.
More than half a century later, the Falls City Mercantile is still a family owned business keeping families of Falls City and the surrounding area well fed and satisfied.
